The Age of Stupid

stupid

After the numerous discussions about “digital legacy”, I still don’t understand the need for arguing via a public forum.   Is getting the last word so important that you’ll risk your entire reputation on it?

It’s unfortunate that I’ve visited one of my favorite online communities (read – user generated content.  Bulletin board of sorts for people in my industry) only to find multiple people flaming each other over a cross word issued via a post.   It’s so bad that users are deleting accounts to get away from it.   I’m all for open communication but personal attacks should be dealt with and by a swift hand.   There are more places those deleted accounts can go….with with them, go their ad viewing revenue.

There’s no need for me to beat a dead horse but sometimes I think we all should be reminded that what we post is public – forever.  If you’ve a beef, pick up the phone and deal with it like an adult vs. hiding behind your keyboard.  Also, consider your audience.  Would thousands of people really give a squirt if Suzy or Joe Public called you a dumb ass?  Continuing to flame them makes you seem as though they are correct.

Use your brain, use the phone and use common sense.  Don’t be a dumb ass.
